EMPOWERING INDIGENT NIGERIAN YOUTH THROUGH HUMANITARIAN ACTIVITIES AT DOLPHIN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Adesuwa Osagie Foundation (AOF) is a registered Non-Governmental Organization in Nigeria which has engaged in several humanitarian activities in different public secondary and primary schools across Lagos State by way of donating to students, basic education materials such as Notebooks, School Bags, Pencil, Erasers, Biro Pencil Sharpeners and conducting enlightenment seminars to students in public secondary schools. The organization has given positive impact to numerous children from impoverished backgrounds by supporting their basic educational needs and enrolling some young secondary school leavers in various skill acquisition programme that will enable them gain some level of financial security and less dependent on their impoverished parents thereby reducing the tendencies of engaging in social vices. Adesuwa Osagie Foundation (AOF) visited Dolphin Senior High School Lagos, to hold a seminar titled “Combining Vocation with Education: Present day and Future Reality”. And also to donate long higher education notebooks to all the students Prior to this day, AOF had liaised with Lagos State Ministry of Education in order to secure approval to carry out the humanitarian activities. With the approval from Lagos Sate Government, the Adesuwa Osagie Foundation team members arrived in the premises of Dolphin Senior High School in the morning of Thursday May 2, 2024, we were received by Mr. Omitiji, the School Vice Principal who coordinated the students and ensured they were well seated in the School Hall. Having introduced the Adesuwa Osagie Foundation (AOF) to the Students, the project coordinator invited the speaker to the podium, the speaker Mr. Wasiu Adebayo is an Educator with vast experience in Youth Advocacy. He spoke to the students, comparing and contrasting education with vocation and skill acquisition. He highlighted various vocation which the students can undertake after secondary school and the benefits of being self employed even while pursuing University education. The students were very receptive, excited with various revelations the seminar brought forth to them. Some of them indicated interest in different skill acquisition vocation they would like to undertake. As Adesuwa Osagie Foundation is looking forward to put smile on their faces by enrolling them in the vocation of their choice with the consent of their parents. Immediately after the seminar, the AOF team began donation of 1200 units of Higher Education Notebooks to the students, distribution started from the Senior to the junior class, the students received the gift with excitement and gratitude. It is worrisome to note that many of the student have been lacking notebooks, unable to fully participate in academic activities that has to do with writing. This trend was seemed to be associated with only pupils of public primary schools but has now been seen amongst the student of public secondary schools. The school management, through Mr. Omitiji, the Vice Principal and Mr. Olajide DaSilva, the Year Tutor for SS3, acknowledged the humanitarian gesture of AOF they expressed sincere appreciation for benevolence to the children of lesser privilege.
