LENDING HELPING HANDS TO NIGERIAN CHILDREN THROUGH DONATION OF BASIC EDUCATIONAL NEEDS
TO PUPILS OF CARDOSO PRIMARY SCHOOL AND UNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL, AJEGUNLE, LAGOS.
If one has ever been in a situation where basic life necessities are grossly inadequate or completely lacking,
such person would sincerely appreciate a helping hands which provides these basic needs.
Education is a fundamental need for children and youths in any egalitarian society, unfortunately, many
indigents Nigerian children and youths are from very lesser privilege and impoverished background which
is militating against their chances of benefiting from quality and appropriate education.
On Wednesday the 17th of May, 2023, Adesuwa Osagie Foundation visited Cardoso Primary School and
Unity Primary School, both schools are situated in the same building at Cardoso lane, Awodiora, Ajegunle,
Lagos State. Being a public primary school, the pupils in attendance in these schools are from very lowly
background many of whom are unable to afford basic needs and writing material or item used in school
such as notebooks, pencils, erasers, ball point pen (biro) pencil sharpeners and school bags.
The purpose of the visit was very clear; to donate gift items of education material to the pupils. The gifts
include 410 Units of School bags, 1800 notebooks of various kinds, that is, 2A, 2B and 2D Exercise Books, 40
dozens of Pencils, 40 dozens of Erasers, 40 dozens of Pencil Sharpeners and 30 units of temporary markers
used by the teachers.
Adesuwa Osagie Foundation had previously sought and secured approval from the regulatory authorities at
Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government, under which jurisdiction these schools falls. We arrive in the schools
premises around 10:30am and were warmly received by Mr. Bolanle Moshood and Mrs. Victoria Okonji
who are headteachers of Unity Primary School and Cardoso Primary School respectively. Shortly after our
arrival, the Education Secretary of Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government, Barrister A.O. Remi-Williams arrived
with the Head of Mobilization and other representatives from the Local Education Authority with the aim
of witnessing the humanitarian gesture of Adesuwa Osagie Foundation.
After a brief introduction of Adesuwa Osagie Foundation’s mission and goals to both the school authority
and the regulatory body, we swung into action and begun distribution of various gift items to these pupils
who were obviously very expectant, seeing visitors with heavy baggage.
We started from the nursery class of Class of Unity Primary School up on to the primary six class and
immediately moved to the nursery class of the Unity School Primary School and continued from primary
one to the sixth class. These pupils could not hide their joy as they received these gift items with so much
excitement and appreciation to the organization for the kind gesture.
The school staff and representatives of the regulatory authority were also glad at the benevolence of
Adesuwa Osagie Foundation. They all expressed appreciation and gratitude for the support given to
children’s education by the organization.
